Happy New Year from Sylvia BoorsteinAs we begin this new year, I’ll start by giving you some news about The Sangha of Thousands of Buddhas. If you are one of the more than 200 friends that came to the fabulous Sangha of Thousands of Buddhas November 22nd Thanksgiving event with actress Naomi Newman, I know you share my sensibility about this campaign being a community effort in which we equally share in building a permanent Community Meditation Hall at Spirit Rock. Replacing the old trailers with buildings is part of Spirit Rock’s founding vision for the campus and will enable its staff and teachers to better serve you and our extended community. So many wonderful people are dedicated to the success of this project and are resolute that it will happen. We now have 360 Buddhas. That means we are over one-third of the way to our first one thousand Buddhas. I continue to be as excited as ever, maybe even more, by the sense that what we are doing together as a community is ensuring the future of Spirit Rock Center as a place that will continue to remind people world-wide that peace is possible in our world, in our lifetime. I am passionate about us all being equal partners in this initiative. It will take a community to realize our vision, so if you have not already pledged your support I hope you’ll want to join us in this effort as we need several thousand participants. We need your support, so I am very much counting on your generosity and willingness to join the Sangha of Thousands of Buddhas- we are a community of people who each pledge a gift of $1,000. Your pledge can be paid over three years at $27/month (or less than a dollar a day) if you wish, something I believe most of us can do. Not only will you get a tax deduction for your contributions, but you could take this opportunity to honor someone you love and admire with your donation by designating them as a Buddha. They will have their name inscribed on our beautiful campaign scroll. They will be in good company, as Chogyam Trumgpa Rimpoche has his name on our scroll twice, and Nelson Mandela is on it as well. Of course, as most people do, you can put your own name on the scroll. Together we can manifest the vision of a new Community Meditation Hall. How’s that for a generous gift that keeps on giving for generations to come! Please join us. Just click on this link to pledge or email sangha@spiritrock.org. Every blessing to you for 2012,
